Flying Rats Take to the Skies! – September 2007

Taking to the skies

Intrepid Soroptimists Dee Jenkins of SI Brecon and Nerys Lines of SI Newport took to the skies in support of their regional project Licking Lassa Fever.

After a summer of heavy rain and windy conditions, a warm bright Sunday morning dawned and the pair were finally able to take to the air. Their flight path involved jumping off the Blorenge in Abergavenny, a hill of some 1570 feet and then landing in the field below, having missed the River Usk.

Strapped safely to a volunteer helper who is a regular paraglider, the fearless duo had a fantastic time; enjoying greatly the sense of freedom that flying like a bird gave them. They are already planning their next flight off a cliff – watch this space.

Their overall success was ensured by the many sponsors who helped them raise over £1352 for the Licking Lassa Fever project.
